Program

Beethoven Coriolan Overture Hailstork Sagrada (Sonata da Chiesa No. 2) Torke December Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5 (“Emperor”)
The Emperor Concerto is the epitome of Beethoven’s heroic style, which audiences have loved for centuries. Written after Napoleon’s assault on Vienna in 1809, the concerto is a magnificent affirmation made in tumultuous times. Performed by Michelle Cann, lauded as “exquisite” by The Philadelphia Inquirer and a “pianist of sterling artistry” by Gramophone. Michelle Cann has become one of the most sought-after pianists of her generation. Coriolan Overture perfectly sets the program conducted by Music Director David Hayes. Adolphus Hailstork’s Sagrada and December by Michael Torke – signature pieces by superb 21st-century composers – round out the program.
