PROGRAM
GLUCK – Dance of the Blessed Spirits from Orfeo ed Euridice
MOZART – Clarinet Concerto
RESPIGHI – Ancient Airs and Dances
ARNOLD – Symphony for Strings
Australian native and international conductor Kynan Johns, “[Kynan Johns] Incisive… first rate… brilliant” – New York Times, opens up the Chamber Orchestra’s 2nd concert with the principal clarinet of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Ricardo Morales. Morales is one of the world’s most sought after clarinetists having won the principal chair of the Met Opera Orchestra at the age of 21. You’ll hear the delicate beauty of Mozart balanced with two dance pieces; the Dance of the Blessed Spirits from Gluck’s Orfeo and Respighi’s incredible Ancient Airs and Dances. The concert closes with Sir Malcolm Arnold’s Symphony for Strings. Written after World War II, the work is reflective of the composer’s own experience of the war. Both beautiful and gritty, the Symphony for Strings provides a moving end to a strong performance.
